    If I am not mistaken: There is a rule that one should never put any foreign objects on the holy Sefer Torah. Just as one does not touch it, but one uses a yad. Please ask the Rabbi if I am right.

    As per Rabbi Mark: As far as I know, this is not a problem. It is used to hold our place for reading only, and though it sits on the scroll, it doesn’t endanger the written words at all.
