“From Where? From There.”
August 4, 2012 – Parshat Va’etchanan/Shabbat Nachamu
It’s hard to believe, but the countdown towards the New Year has begun. Counting today, we have a total of 7 shabbats left before the end of the year.
I invite you to join me in “the countdown,” as we try to prepare, or at least as we try to begin to prepare for what is to come.
From this week’s reading, Im reflecting on the verse (paraphrase 4:29-31), “If from there you seek G-d, you shall find It, if you seek with all of your heart and all of your soul. When you are in distress…when you turn to G-d….G-d will turn to you.”
In the context of the verse, “from there,” refers to the Land of Israel. Thinking though about this in spiritual terms, perhaps “from there” is an invitation for us to locate the place, either in or outside of ourselves, where we can enter into the game of sacred hide and seek with The One. If we put our hearts and souls into it, during this time of preparing “to turn,” then it is apparent that we will find each other.
