For the 2013 school year, Congregations B’nai Emunah and Beth Israel Judea are joining together to form B3 School for students ages 4 through 15.  Classes will be held on Sunday mornings at Brandeis-Hillel Day School, 655 Brotherhood Way, San Francisco.  We will also offer a Hebrew program on Wednesday afternoons at B’nai Emunah, as well as alternative Hebrew instruction, for those who choose to participate, immediately following Sunday school.

Mornings will begin together in prayer with Rabbi Melamut and with Rabbi Gottlieb. Parents may stick around for the “Mi Chamocha” coffee gathering and informal learning.

Several school sessions will also take place at B’nai Emunah, including gathering in our sukkah and leading periodic Friday evening services at both locations.  Other programs, where it makes sense for our students, will be run together.

With two rabbis, a part-time educator, and approximately 40 students, our school will benefit greatly.  Bringing together the students from our communities enables us to grow our program together, expands the Jewish connections of our students and families, and provides more resources to serve our children.  This is an opportunity to draw more families into our rich synagogue life and community.  We’re looking forward to a wonderful, meaningful, fun, and collaborative year.

Gabriele,   The end of the first paragraph is not clear — it’s not clear where the other Hebrew instruction is offered.  I’m referring to this sentence:

…as well as alternative Hebrew instruction, for those who choose to participate, immediately following Sunday school     I’m suggesting adding the location:   at Brandeis Hillel School.

The way I have understood the Hebrew instruction is that we continue our Wednesday afternoon Hebrew classes at B’nai Emunah and BIJ continues their Hebrew instruction, which is offered immediately following Sunday school at Brandeis Hillel School.

Terrific. I hope Or Shalom and Ner Tamid have an opportunity to join the effort–more Jewish kids getting to be with more Jewish kids. Only good can come from that.
