Hanukkah 2013

Young and old got together for a lovely Hanukkah Bazaar at Congregation B’nai Emunah. The Sunday school children enjoyed a festive program with several stations all revolving around Hanukkah. Rabbi Mark used the sidewalk in front of the building for Donut frying (the kids made their own dough!) and met up inside for a rousing game of Dreidels. We concluded with an great game of “capture the menorah” at the beach. We were blessed by unseasonably warm and wonderful weather.
The BE Sisterhood did another great job of getting local crafts people as well as musicians involved. Thanks to our kitchen crew the homemade latkes were outstanding.
A list acknowledgeing all of our volunteers will follow shortly.

The Jewish Folk Chorus of San Francisco sang holiday songs for those Cong B’nai Emunah guests who rallied to the sanctuary. The ending song was in English “Hanukah in Santa Monica”. It was a humorous piece, rhyming key cities in the US. An example is St.Louis with Shavuos. It was fun to sing. See if you can find the words on goggle. It was written very cleverly! Come next year! I bought $20.00 of raffle tickets and won a $100.00 gift certificate to Restaurant Iron Gate in Belmont. I heard it is fabulous and can’t wait to bring a friend to this luxury prize. My boyfriend also won a prize. He bought $20.00 of tickets also. You have a good chance to win many prizes here, since the pool of people is not large, as in other drawings. And you got to pick your prize from about 40 items and gift certificates. Generous people like Fred Walker and his ladyfriend bought many gift certificates from Macys. People like that contribute to the funds that keep our congregation so active for kids, teenagers, young adults, marrieds with or without children, and older folk like myself. This congregation is lots of fun…always. Many activities give choice to interests that vary. We are small enough to be loving, cohesive and generous.
